What is the difference between regular perf blades and micro perf blades?

Baum Micro Perf.jpgThere are many different tools and accessories that are used on and with Baumfolder equipment that are extremely useful and valuable to producing the best end product.

One of these extremely useful accessories is perf blades. These widely used blades allow your folder to produce things such as:

  • Removable bill sections
  • Removable coupons
  • Labels.

Everyday people come into contact with or use items that are made possible by perf blades.

Credit card statements that have the removable payment section at the bottom of the page, punch out coupons that come in the mail. Perf blades are nothing new, but there are different types of blades and styles that are tailored to specific types of applications so how do you know what type of perf blade to use?

The two basic types of perfing are Regular and Micro, each can be fitted to any Baum- folder. Each type of perfing comes in a wide array of teeth. The teeth on perf blades are the small blades that punch and tear the pattern and type of perforation you want in your product.

Micro Perfing is perfect for standard stock or thinner material that you need small “soft” perforations; it also doesn’t allow the perfing blades to fully penetrate through the material. This will give you a nice tear off point while giving the removable section enough strength to hold firm.

Regular perfing is great for standard or heavy stock that needs large complete perforations. These perf blades have larger deeper teeth that will fully penetrate through the material. This style of perfing will give you a nice, clear, easily removable tear point. This perforation is used for stacks that need perforations and must be fed again through copiers and printers.

Each type of perfing comes with many different styles of teeth patterns and determining the style and number of teeth you need for your product isn’t always easy but Baumfolder can help. Call in and arrange to send us a sample of the material and description of your application and we can help guide you to the right perf type and blade.
