BAUM Gluing Machine.jpgIn the past I have spoken about the many different options and features that can be added to your paper folder. Every option gives your folder more usability and increases the values of your equipment invest.

Segmented rolls why are they used?

All in-line gluing systems require fold rolls to be replaced with segmented rolls. The segmented rolls allow you to be able to make grooves/ spaces in the roll where glue could come into contact with the roll. Without segmented rolls the bead or line of glue would smear and transfer glue all over your fold rolls.

Segmented rolls are side adjustable. This is extremely important because it allows you to move the contact point on your fold roll to avoid contact with the glue. The feature to adjust your segmented roll gives you the flexibly to run countless gluing applications regardless of where the glue needs to be applied.

More than just a nose.

A grooved nose is the term given to the adjustable spaces that come on fold plates for gluing applications. Similar to the segmented rolls that allow a space to be made for the glue, the grooved nose is the solution for keeping glue off of the fold plate. These grooves will need to mimic the location and size adjustments made in the segmented roll. If your adjustments do not line up properly you run the risk of glue transferring onto critical folder components.

Real world applications

Many products people come into contact with every have been ran on and inline gluing system. Have you ever received a mailing that is a standard 8 ½ x 11 sheet of paper that has been folded in half, but has the opening half “booger” glued shut? That product is ran on an inline folder/gluer.

On the back of weed killer and other similar products you will find a small Z folded booklet of warnings and other information. These booklets are most times glued shut to keep them attached to the product and to help tame the Z fold and keeping it from popping open.
